Dishwashing agents are crucial because of the recent pandemic of novel coronavirus disease( COVID-19). It has been demonstrated that scallop shell-derived calcium oxide( CaO) has potent virucidal and microbicidal activity and is suitable for both living tissues and the environment as a raw material for next-generation disinfectants.

This minireview summarizes recent work on developing disinfectants using scallop shell-CaO, with particular attention paid to studies of regular use and scientific applications.

We describe the scallop shell-CaO disinfectants 'preparation, basic characteristics, and virucidal and microbicidal activities. Additionally, they are quickly described in terms of their applications for contaminated mask disinfection and wound treatment.
